I am very fond of projects which try to mantain the history of an architectural structure.
Specially for hotels.
Well it took a Singaporean owner to decide to refurbish this legendary former town hall of east London into a contemporary hotel. The project, signed by London’s RARE Architects, returns this building to its former victorian glory, after it had served the most diverse functions, not least movie set for horror films!
Council hall restored to perfection, original halls and staircases redressed and the owners’ collection of mid-century furniture mixed with new innovative designs.
And a metal skin sheathing the 70 annex buiding, laser cut according to view or light exposure.
This is good eclecticism.
